Former Zamalek SC head coach Juan Carlos Osorio has reportedly expressed interest in becoming the next manager of Al Ahly SC as the club continues its search for a permanent head coach.
The Egyptian champions are currently assessing their options after parting ways with Jess Thorup following a disappointing season. The departure has left one of Africa’s biggest clubs searching for a new leader ahead of the upcoming campaign.
According to reports, Osorio has made his interest known through intermediaries and is keen on a return to Egyptian football. The Colombian coach reportedly views Al Ahly as his preferred destination, believing the club’s structure, ambition and long-term sporting vision offer the ideal platform for success.
Osorio is no stranger to Egyptian football. He managed Zamalek in 2023, gaining valuable experience in one of Africa’s most competitive football environments. Since then, he has continued his coaching career abroad, including a spell with Athletico Paranaense in Brazil.
The 64-year-old boasts an extensive résumé that includes coaching the national teams of Mexico and Paraguay, as well as club stints with São Paulo FC. He also previously worked as an assistant coach at Manchester City under Kevin Keegan.
His familiarity with Egyptian football and extensive international experience could strengthen his candidacy. However, no formal negotiations have been confirmed, and Al Ahly are understood to be considering several foreign coaches before making a final decision.
For now, the situation remains open, but Osorio’s willingness to return to Egypt has added another prominent name to the list of candidates linked with the Al Ahly job.
