Former Al Ahly head coach Jess Thorup has sent a farewell message to the club’s players following his departure from the Egyptian giants by mutual consent.
The Danish coach’s message was revealed by Egyptian media personality Ahmed Shobeir, who said Thorup asked him to pass on his greetings to the squad after leaving the club.
Speaking on television, Shobeir explained that he had recently spoken with Thorup through the coach’s agent, Firas Ali. During the conversation, the former Al Ahly manager expressed his respect and appreciation for the club and its supporters.
According to Shobeir, Thorup said he had hoped to achieve many successes with Al Ahly but accepted the circumstances surrounding his departure.
“Thorup asked me to send a message to the Al Ahly players, conveying his greetings and wishing them well,” Shobeir said.
The Danish tactician explained that the timing of the holiday period and preparations for the FIFA World Cup prevented him from personally saying goodbye to the players before leaving.
He also wished the team success in the coming months and said he was grateful for the opportunity to work at one of Africa’s biggest clubs.
Thorup further extended his best wishes to Egypt ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing hope that the Pharaohs would enjoy a successful campaign and represent the country with distinction on football’s biggest stage.
Al Ahly recently confirmed the termination of Thorup’s contract by mutual agreement, bringing an end to his spell in charge despite having two years remaining on his deal.
The club and the coach agreed to part ways amicably, closing a chapter that Thorup says he will remember fondly.
