Zamalek coach Moataz Gamal is considering two midfield options as he prepares his side for Sunday's Premier League derby against Al Ahly at Cairo International Stadium. Gamal is expected to rely on the same basic formation he has used in Zamalek's first five league matches this season, with a back four, three midfielders and three forwards. Mahdi Suleiman is set to retain his place in goal after his strong performances during the recent period, making his selection one of the clearer decisions ahead of the match. In defence, Mahmoud Hamdy El Wensh and Mohamed Ismail are expected to form the central defensive partnership. Mahmoud Bentayk will operate at left-back, while Omar Gaber is expected to start on the right side of the defence. The biggest question for Gamal appears to be in midfield, where he is considering two possible combinations. One option would see Abdullah Al-Saeed play alongside Mohamed Shehata and Ahmed Fatouh. The alternative is for Al-Saeed and Shehata to be joined by Ahmed Rabie. There is also consideration of using Rabie from the start in order to preserve Fatouh as a potential impact substitute later in the match. The attacking positions are also taking shape, with Chico Banza expected to start on the left wing. Hossam Ashraf is set to lead the attack through the centre, while Oday Al-Dabbagh is expected to operate on the right wing. Gamal is therefore working with a largely familiar structure while continuing to assess the final midfield decision before the derby. The match will be played at 8pm on Sunday, 11 October, at Cairo International Stadium and will be the 133rd meeting between Al Ahly and Zamalek. Both sides will enter the derby looking for victory and the three points, with the two teams level on points before the start of the match. For Zamalek, the final decision in midfield could be one of the main selection issues for Gamal as he completes his preparations for the meeting with their traditional rivals. The coach's preference for a familiar four-man defence, three-player midfield and three-man attack provides the framework for the team, but the choice between Fatouh and Rabie could determine the final shape of the midfield. With the derby approaching, Gamal will have to settle on his preferred combination as Zamalek prepare for another meeting with Al Ahly.
