Zamalek’s latest FIFA-imposed transfer ban has reportedly been linked to outstanding financial obligations owed to former player Omar Farag, increasing the club’s registration-related cases to 17.
According to reports, the dispute concerns compensation and contractual dues amounting to approximately $1.7 million, which FIFA has ruled in favour of the player. The decision has resulted in Zamalek being handed a transfer ban covering three registration windows.
Club officials are now working to resolve the matter as quickly as possible, with efforts underway to open discussions with the player, his representatives and legal team.
A source familiar with the situation revealed that Zamalek intends to negotiate a settlement agreement and potentially arrange a payment schedule in an effort to lift the sanction.
The Egyptian giants are currently racing against time to settle all outstanding cases as they seek to secure the necessary licence requirements for participation in future competitions and strengthen the squad during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Farag was part of the Zamalek side that won the CAF Super Cup against rivals Al Ahly in 2024. However, the forward struggled for regular playing time and later left the club on loan before ultimately failing to return to the first team setup.
The player subsequently filed a complaint with FIFA seeking the full value of his contract, and the world governing body ruled in his favour.
The latest sanction adds to Zamalek’s growing list of financial and legal challenges, with club management now under increasing pressure to resolve outstanding disputes and restore stability ahead of the new season.
