Hossam El Badry has expressed satisfaction after guiding Al Ahly Tripoli to the Libyan Cup title, while also addressing rumours linking the club with a move for Egyptian international Hussein El Shahat.
Al Ahly Tripoli secured the trophy after defeating Al Ahly Benghazi 1-0 in the final, played at the Cairo International Stadium. The victory marked a significant achievement for El Badry’s side, capping a competitive campaign in Libyan domestic football.
Speaking in comments to MBC Egypt, El Badry reflected on the importance of the triumph and the support he has received since taking charge.
He said: “Thank God for winning the Libyan Cup, a precious championship for the fans of the leader who always support us, and God willing, more championships in the coming period.”
The coach went on to highlight the competitiveness of Libyan football, noting the strength of clubs across different regions and the ongoing efforts to improve the domestic game.
He added: “The competition is fierce in Libya, and the teams in the east and west are distinguished teams. There is a great focus on developing football, and I am happy to have won a championship in those difficult circumstances.”
El Badry also praised the environment at Al Ahly Tripoli, thanking the club’s hierarchy, staff and supporters for their backing throughout the season.
“The Al-Ahly Tripoli experience is very important to me, and I thank the administration for their support. The great support from the fans makes me happy, and I thank the administrative, technical, and medical staff and the entire system.”
Reflecting on his wider career, El Badry noted that each trophy adds to his coaching record, referencing his previous success with Al Ahly SC in Egypt.
He said: “Every championship I win adds to my record. I have won championships with the great Egyptian Al-Ahly, and when I win an international championship, I feel it adds to my record.”
Attention also turned to speculation surrounding potential transfer activity, particularly reports linking Al Ahly Tripoli with a move for El Shahat. El Badry firmly dismissed those suggestions.
He clarified the truth about the negotiations with Al-Shahat, saying: “Hussein Al-Shahat is a great and distinguished player, but he is not among the names nominated to join Al-Ahly Tripoli, and there is more than one player in his position in the team.”
Despite his current role in Libya, El Badry also took time to speak warmly about his former club Al Ahly in Egypt, describing it as central to his coaching identity and career development.
“All the best to Al Ahly Club. Al Ahly Club is my home and I will never let it down. It has done me a great favor, and it is what made me and made my name. I will support Al Ahly in any circumstance, and all the best to coach Ammouta.”
He concluded by acknowledging coach Hussein Ammouta, expressing confidence in his abilities.
“I have faced Hussein Ammouta before, and he is a distinguished coach, and God willing, he will be an asset.”
