Former Wydad AC coach Hussein Ammouta has reportedly been offered the opportunity to become the new head coach of Al Ahly, with discussions between both parties currently ongoing.
Al Ahly are searching for a new manager after parting ways with Jess Thorup by mutual consent following a disappointing season. The Cairo giants endured a difficult campaign, missing out on qualification for the CAF Champions League and surrendering the Egyptian Premier League title to rivals Zamalek SC.
The club’s hierarchy has since begun the process of identifying a coach capable of restoring Al Ahly to domestic and continental prominence, with Ammouta emerging as one of the frontrunners.
The Moroccan tactician has built a strong reputation across African and Arab football, most notably during his successful spell with Wydad AC, where he delivered both domestic and continental success. He most recently worked with Al Jazira Club, adding further experience to an already impressive coaching résumé.
If an agreement is reached, Ammouta would become the first Moroccan coach to lead Al Ahly, a position widely regarded as one of the most demanding jobs in African football due to the club’s expectations of competing for every available trophy.
Negotiations are understood to be continuing, with a final decision expected in the coming days as Al Ahly seek to put their disappointing season behind them and begin preparations for the new campaign under fresh leadership.
