Zamalek deny CAF Champions League exclusion fears amid registration ban reports

Zamalek Club’s legal advisor Mohamed Metwally has dismissed reports claiming that the club could be excluded from next season’s CAF Champions League due to a disciplinary registration ban.

Speaking exclusively to Al-Watan Sport, Metwally clarified that the disciplinary restriction only affects Zamalek’s ability to register new players and has no impact on the club’s eligibility to participate in continental competitions.

“There is absolutely no connection between the registration ban and Zamalek’s participation in the CAF Champions League,” Metwally explained. “The sanction relates only to player registrations and does not prevent the club from taking part in African competitions.”

The statement comes after widespread speculation suggested that Zamalek’s disciplinary situation could open the door for rivals Al Ahly to replace them in the Champions League.

However, Metwally firmly rejected those claims, confirming that there is no basis for suggestions that Al Ahly would take Zamalek’s place in the competition.

Zamalek secured their spot in next season’s CAF Champions League after winning the Egyptian Premier League title, with Pyramids FC also qualifying for Africa’s elite club tournament.

Meanwhile, Al Ahly and ZED FC are set to represent Egypt in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The clarification is expected to ease concerns among Zamalek supporters, with the club maintaining that its place in the Champions League remains secure despite the ongoing registration restrictions.
