Zamalek SC have decided to keep Moataz Gamal as head coach for next season after he guided the club to the Egyptian Premier League title amid a turbulent campaign marked by financial and administrative problems.
According to sources inside the club speaking to WinWin, Zamalek’s board reached the decision in coordination with sporting director John Edward following Gamal’s successful season with the Cairo side.
The coach led the White Knights to the domestic league crown and also guided the club to the final of the CAF Confederation Cup, where they were beaten by USM Alger.
Despite the achievements, the club had delayed announcing its plans for the managerial position because of ongoing instability off the pitch.
Zamalek have faced repeated financial difficulties in recent years, including several transfer registration bans linked to unpaid dues owed to former players and technical staff.
The club has reportedly been suspended from registering players on nearly 18 occasions, while also serving a two-window transfer ban as a disciplinary punishment.
Sources indicated that the club’s hierarchy believes retaining Gamal is the most practical option under the current circumstances.
Officials reportedly feel that attracting a high-profile foreign coach would be extremely difficult because of the financial uncertainty surrounding the club and the continuing administrative issues.
Club insiders also believe that Gamal’s familiarity with the internal challenges at Zamalek gives him an advantage over any potential replacement.
According to the sources, the coach has already demonstrated an ability to work effectively under pressure and to maintain competitive performances despite the instability affecting the squad and the wider organisation.
The decision reflects a desire for continuity at a time when the club is attempting to stabilise both sporting and financial matters ahead of the new campaign.
Zamalek are currently working on preparations for next season, including finalising the squad and ensuring the club secures the necessary African licence required to participate in the CAF Champions League.
Qualification for the tournament comes after their triumph in the Egyptian league, but administrative requirements and financial obligations remain a significant concern for the club.
