Al Ahly near agreement to bring back Akram Tawfik

Egyptian club Al Ahly SC are close to finalising the return of midfielder Akram Tawfik, currently with Al Shamal SC, after reaching an advanced stage in negotiations over a summer transfer.

According to a source within the club, discussions between all parties have progressed significantly, with only minor details remaining before the deal can be completed.

The development comes amid reports in Qatari media suggesting that a potential swap arrangement had been considered involving both clubs during the current transfer window.

An Al Ahly source told Kora Plus that the club is now on the verge of securing the player’s signature, with agreement at an advanced stage.

The source said: “Akram Tawfik is close to joining Al Ahly after reaching a near-final agreement with the player.”

Contract termination expected before return

The same source explained that the most likely scenario would see Tawfik terminate his contract with Al Shamal SC by mutual consent before completing his move back to Cairo.

Negotiations are now understood to be focused on final administrative and contractual procedures, with no major obstacles currently blocking the transfer.

If completed, the move would mark a return for Tawfik to Al Ahly, where he previously played before moving abroad.

Limited role in Qatar accelerates decision

Tawfik’s situation in Qatar is believed to have played a significant role in his desire to seek a return to Egyptian football.

The midfielder struggled to secure a regular starting position during the previous season with Al Shamal, spending much of his time on the bench.

This lack of consistent game time reportedly contributed to his dissatisfaction, making a departure from the Qatari club a more attractive option ahead of the new season.

His reduced role has therefore opened the door for Al Ahly to move quickly in negotiations and bring the player back into their squad.

Possible swap deal involving Al Ahly player

Reports in Qatari media also suggest that Al Shamal SC had expressed interest in signing Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane from Al Ahly as part of a potential exchange arrangement linked to Tawfik’s transfer.

However, it remains unclear whether such a deal will be included in the final agreement or whether the transfer will proceed independently.

Al Ahly are believed to be prioritising the completion of Tawfik’s return, with discussions continuing to focus on finalising the structure of the deal.

Final stages of negotiations

While no official announcement has yet been made, all indications suggest that the transfer is nearing completion, with only minor details left to resolve.

Should the agreement be finalised, Tawfik is expected to rejoin Al Ahly ahead of the upcoming season, strengthening the club’s midfield options as they prepare for domestic and continental competitions.

For now, both clubs are continuing discussions, but confidence is growing that the deal will be completed in the near future.
