Senegal defender Koulibaly begins rehab after injury setback

Kalidou Koulibaly will not require surgery following a recent injury scare, according to reports in the Saudi press, offering a timely boost to Al-Hilal SFC as they continue their domestic campaign and prepare for crucial fixtures.

The Senegal international defender underwent medical examinations in Madrid last week after picking up an injury during training. The assessments have provided reassurance to the club, confirming that surgical intervention is not necessary at this stage.

Instead, Koulibaly is set to continue with a structured rehabilitation plan overseen by Al-Hilal’s medical department. The recovery process will focus on treatment and gradual conditioning, with the aim of returning him to full fitness before reintegrating him into team training.

The injury itself occurred during a training session shortly before Al-Hilal travelled to Jeddah for their AFC Champions League Round of 16 clash against Al Sadd SC on 13 April. The setback raised initial concern within the club, given Koulibaly’s importance to the defensive line.

Despite that concern, the latest medical findings have eased fears of a long-term absence. Club officials are now expected to manage his recovery carefully, ensuring he is not rushed back into action prematurely.

So far this season, Koulibaly has been a consistent presence for Al-Hilal, featuring in 26 matches across all competitions. Of those appearances, 18 have come in the Saudi Pro League. He has contributed one goal and one assist, while also collecting six yellow cards during the campaign.

His experience and leadership at the back have been key components of Al-Hilal’s domestic and continental ambitions, making his fitness a priority as the season enters its decisive stages.

Attention now turns to Al-Hilal’s upcoming league fixture against Damac FC, scheduled for next Tuesday in the 30th round of the Roshn Saudi League. While it remains unclear whether Koulibaly will be involved in that match, the current medical outlook suggests a cautious but positive recovery path.

Club sources are expected to monitor his progress closely in the coming days, with a phased return to training planned once rehabilitation milestones are met. For now, Al-Hilal will continue managing without one of their most experienced defenders as they balance domestic and continental commitments.
