Al-Hilal move closer to Rwandan league title

Al-Hilal Omdurman moved to the brink of securing the Rwandan league title after a commanding 4-0 victory over APR FC on Thursday at Kigali Pele Stadium.

The result came during the 30th round of the Rwandan League season and further strengthened Al-Hilal’s remarkable campaign in a competition that has also featured fellow Sudanese club Al-Merrikh SC.

Nicknamed “The Blue Wave”, Al-Hilal now sit firmly at the top of the standings with 67 points after overcoming one of their closest challengers for the title. The victory increased the gap over Al-Merrikh to nine points, leaving the Sudanese side needing only six points from their remaining five matches to officially secure the championship.

The latest success also continued a season filled with impressive records and dominant attacking performances under Romanian coach Laurentiu Reghecampf.

Four-goal display tightens Al-Hilal’s grip on title race

Al-Hilal’s victory was built on goals from Haji Madiki, Ahmed Salem Mubarak, Abdul Raouf Yaqoub and captain Mohamed Abdel Rahman.

The result not only strengthened their position at the summit but also effectively removed one of the main competitors in the title race.

With a comfortable lead established, the club is now in a position to rotate players and potentially use second-string and reserve-team options during the remaining league fixtures.

Al-Hilal are also attempting to achieve a unique milestone by topping a second foreign league competition after previously claiming an honorary title in the Mauritanian League in 2025.

Records continue to fall

The victory over the Army side added further statistical achievements to an already outstanding campaign.

Al-Hilal’s total of 67 points set a new record for the highest number of points collected in a single edition of the competition.

The team has also scored 66 goals in 29 matches, establishing itself as the most prolific attacking side in the league. In addition, the club has recorded 21 victories during the campaign, another leading figure in the division.

Several Al-Hilal forwards are also competing for the league’s top scorer award, underlining the attacking strength that has defined the club’s season.

Thursday’s match also marked the return of playmaker Abdul Raouf Yaqoub after a lengthy absence caused by injury. The midfielder made an immediate impact by scoring the third goal shortly after entering the game as a substitute.

His return provided an additional boost for coach Reghecampf, who used the match as an opportunity to continue preparing key members of the squad for upcoming domestic commitments in Sudan.

Focus shifts toward Sudanese Elite League

The team is now preparing to return to Khartoum to take part in the Sudanese Elite League, which represents the final phase of the Sudanese Premier League season and is scheduled to begin in mid-May.

While the senior squad shifts attention toward domestic competition in Sudan, the reserve side is expected to continue Al-Hilal’s campaign in Rwanda, where four rounds remain before the end of the season.

With momentum continuing to build and records already falling, Al-Hilal now stand within touching distance of another significant title achievement in what has become one of the most remarkable campaigns in the club’s recent history.
