Nigeria centre-back Segun Adekunle has joined Barau FC from Nasarawa United as the NPFL side reshape their defensive options ahead of the new campaign. The 25-year-old, a right-footed defender, makes the switch within the Nigerian top flight, with the transfer confirmed on 21 July 2026.
Adekunle arrives at Barau FC with an estimated market value of €50,000, reflecting his growing status in domestic football. Comfortable in the heart of defence, he is expected to add depth and experience to Barau’s back line following his spell with Nasarawa United.
The move continues a steady rise through Nigerian club football for Adekunle, who has featured for a succession of NPFL sides in recent seasons. Before joining Nasarawa United in January 2026, he spent the first half of the 2025-26 season with Katsina United after a transfer from Kwara United in July 2025.
Adekunle’s CV also includes time at Bayelsa, who he joined in August 2024, and a spell with ASSC before that. His move from ASSC to Bayelsa came as a free transfer in August 2023, marking the start of a sequence of domestic transfers that have kept him in regular top-flight contention.
Born on 30 September 2000, Adekunle adds trophy-winning experience to Barau FC, having lifted the Nigerian Cup once earlier in his career. With his arrival now confirmed, Barau FC have secured a central defender with extensive NPFL exposure as they prepare for the 2026-27 season.
