Barcelona continue to monitor Erling Haaland’s situation at Manchester City, viewing the Norway striker as a potential future market opportunity, while Real Madrid are also keeping track of developments surrounding the forward.
According to SPORT, Manchester City’s conviction for financial breaches and the damaging consequences facing the club have prompted half of Europe’s leading clubs to watch the situation closely.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently said a future move for Haaland to Spain could not be ruled out, even before a decision is reached in Manchester City’s case. He also noted that both Barcelona and Real Madrid have shown repeated interest in the striker since his time at Borussia Dortmund.
Barcelona have followed Haaland for a long period. Supporters of the Catalan club had dreamed for years of seeing the number nine shirt given to a forward of his quality.
However, Raphinha’s unexpected emergence as a prolific goalscorer has led some fans to reconsider how necessary such a major signing would be. Despite that, Haaland’s availability would represent an exceptional market opportunity for Barcelona if a transfer became possible.
Real Madrid have also tried to sign Haaland on more than one occasion and continue to assess his position. The club’s large number of forwards, together with questions over their style of play, could work against a move for the Norwegian.
Those tactical concerns may instead leave Real Madrid in greater need of a midfielder capable of controlling and organising play, rather than another striker. That is one factor which could reduce the likelihood of Haaland moving to the Spanish capital.
For now, Haaland maintains a relationship of the utmost respect with Manchester City. The striker recently signed a new contract with the English club that runs for an additional 10 years, and there are currently no indications of a split between the player and the club in the near future.
Romano also said Haaland is not currently in contact with any other club.
“Nothing has happened in recent days, and nothing will happen in the coming months,” Romano said.
He stressed, however, that Spain could become Haaland’s destination if the forward’s circumstances change in the future.
“Spain could be Haaland’s destination if his future changes,” Romano added.
