Hull City have reached an agreement with Spanish side Rayo Vallecano to sign Senegal international Nobel Mendy in a deal worth €20 million plus bonuses, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Championship club have moved decisively to secure the services of the highly-rated 21-year-old centre-back after his impressive performances in Spain last season.
The transfer will also provide a financial boost for Real Betis, who are set to receive €4 million through a sell-on clause included in Mendy’s previous transfer agreement.
For Rayo Vallecano, the deal represents a significant profit. The La Liga club only completed Mendy’s permanent signing at the beginning of June for €3.5 million before agreeing to sell him for a substantially higher fee. The defender had been contracted to the Spanish side until 2030.
Mendy’s rapid rise has attracted increasing attention across Europe following a breakthrough campaign. Last season, the Guédiawaye-born defender made 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals while establishing himself as one of Rayo Vallecano’s standout young performers.
Although currently valued at around €7.5 million, Hull City have agreed to pay considerably above that figure, reflecting their confidence in the Senegal international’s long-term potential.
With an agreement now in place between the two clubs, Mendy is expected to continue his career in English football, while Rayo Vallecano secure a substantial financial return and Real Betis also benefit through the sell-on clause attached to the defender’s previous transfer.
