Hull City are in advanced negotiations to sign Senegalese centre-back Nobel Mendy from Rayo Vallecano in a deal worth €18.5m, according to reports in Spain and Belgium.
The 21-year-old, who is under contract with the La Liga club until 30 June 2030, is expected to leave Rayo before the end of the summer transfer window.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Hull City have made an offer of €18.5m to Rayo Vallecano for Mendy, and that the Spanish club have accepted the proposal in principle.
The move would represent a significant investment by Hull City in the young defender, whose market value is currently estimated at €7.5m on Transfermarkt.
Deal close but not yet completed
While Rayo Vallecano are understood to have approved Hull City’s offer, several minor points still need to be resolved before the transfer can be made official.
Those remaining details have not been disclosed, but typically concern aspects such as payment structure, bonuses or final contract terms.
Mendy is reported to be keen on the move and is said to be in favour of joining Hull City, which would see him take the next step in his career after his development in Spain.
Long-term contract at Rayo
Mendy’s current deal with Rayo Vallecano runs through to 2030, underlining how highly the Madrid-based club rate the defender.
However, with Hull City prepared to pay a fee more than double his estimated market value, Rayo appear ready to agree to his departure this summer.
If completed, the transfer would take Mendy from La Liga to the English top flight, with Hull City looking to strengthen their central defensive options ahead of the new season.
No official announcement has yet been made by either club, and the move remains subject to the finalisation of the outstanding details.
