Farouk Shikalo: Kenya goalkeeper leaves Kidus Giorgis and becomes free agent

Kenya goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo has left Ethiopian side Kidus Giorgis and is now a free agent after reaching the end of his stint with the Premier League club. The 29-year-old, who was born in Bureti and stands at 1.85m, departs with an estimated market value of €100,000.

Shikalo, a right-footed goalkeeper, had joined Kidus Giorgis from Kenyan outfit KCB Nairobi in October 2025. His spell in Ethiopia followed a return to the Kenyan league, where he first signed for KCB from Kakamega in January 2024. The move away from Kidus Giorgis leaves him currently without a club.

The former Young Africans stopper has spent much of his career in East African football, featuring for sides across Kenya and Tanzania. Before his time at KCB and Kakamega, he had spells with Mtibwa Sugar and KMC FC, having initially re-emerged from a previous period without a club to sign for KMC in September 2021.

Earlier in his career, Shikalo built his reputation in the Kenyan game with a series of free transfers that took him from Ushuru FC to FC Talanta, then on to Tusker FC, Muhoroni FC, Posta Rangers and Bandari FC. A switch from Bandari to Tanzanian giants Young Africans in 2019, again on a free transfer, marked his first major move outside Kenya.

Shikalo, whose current valuation matches the highest of his career to date, is now available to join a new club following his exit from Kidus Giorgis on 16 July 2026.
