Malam Malu: Guinea-Bissau defender joins KAS Eupen on free transfer

Guinea-Bissau centre-back Malam Malu has joined Belgian side KAS Eupen on a free transfer from Sporting CP’s under-23 set-up. The 21-year-old defender has signed a deal running until 30 June 2027 with the Challenger Pro League club.

Malu swaps Portugal for Belgium after spending the last few seasons with Sporting CP U23, where he took his first steps in professional football. The left-footed centre-back, who stands at 1.90m, adds height and defensive depth to Eupen’s back line as they prepare for the new campaign.

The move marks a significant step in Malu’s career, having initially arrived at Sporting CP’s youth ranks in March 2023 following a spell without a club. He featured in Portugal’s under-23 league system, including a brief outing in the Liga U23 Cup Qualifying competition.

By securing Malu on a free transfer, Eupen have committed to a multi-year investment in a young defender with experience in a leading European development pathway. His contract until summer 2027 gives the Belgian club long-term control over his progression.

Malam Malu is now officially a KAS Eupen player after completing his free transfer from Sporting CP U23 and signing a contract through to 2027.
