Sporting CP are edging closer to securing the signing of midfielder Issa Doumbia from Venezia FC as negotiations between the two clubs continue to advance ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to reports from journalist Nicolò Schira, officials from both clubs are expected to hold a crucial meeting in Milan on Monday as discussions intensify over a potential transfer.
Doumbia has emerged as one of the standout midfield performers in Serie A this season, attracting growing attention across Europe with his consistent displays and rapid development.
Sporting CP are understood to be pushing strongly to complete the move, with reports suggesting the player has already agreed personal terms with the Portuguese champions.
The Lisbon-based side are believed to be preparing a long-term contract running until 2031 for the 22-year-old midfielder should the transfer be finalised.
While the player’s side appears fully aligned with the move, negotiations are currently centred around the financial structure of the agreement.
Venezia are reportedly demanding a package worth around €25 million including bonuses, whereas Sporting CP’s current proposal is believed to fall between €18 million and €20 million.
Despite the difference in valuation, discussions are said to be progressing positively, with both clubs optimistic that a compromise can eventually be reached.
Doumbia is understood to be keen on joining Sporting CP, viewing the move as a major step forward in his career development, particularly with the opportunity to compete in European competitions including the UEFA Champions League.
His performances in Italy, however, have not gone unnoticed elsewhere.
Several Premier League clubs are reportedly monitoring the midfielder’s situation closely, with Everton FC, Newcastle United FC, Brentford FC and AFC Bournemouth all linked with interest.
Despite the attention from England, Sporting CP are believed to remain in a strong position due to the advanced stage of negotiations and the player’s apparent preference for a move to Portugal.
Doumbia remains under contract with Venezia until June 2029, although his current market valuation is estimated at around €8 million according to Transfermarkt.
With talks continuing and a decisive meeting scheduled, the coming days are expected to play a significant role in determining whether Doumbia’s next destination will be Lisbon as Sporting CP look to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season.
