Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to begin a new chapter in his career after agreeing a move from Olympique de Marseille to Spanish side Deportivo La Coruña.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs have reached a full agreement for the transfer, with Deportivo expected to pay a fee of €1.5 million. The final step was securing the player’s approval, which has now reportedly been obtained.
New challenge in Spain
The move sees the 37-year-old striker return to Spanish football after previous spells in La Liga and follows a single season with Marseille.
Despite contributing important performances for the French club, Aubameyang’s departure forms part of Marseille’s efforts to reshape the squad and reduce their wage expenditure ahead of the new season.
Marseille continue squad overhaul
Aubameyang’s exit follows other significant changes at the club, including the departure of Mason Greenwood, as Marseille continue to restructure under their current sporting project.
The Gabonese forward was among the club’s highest earners, making his departure a key part of Marseille’s financial strategy during the transfer window.
Veteran striker seeks fresh opportunity
Aubameyang leaves Marseille with a reputation as one of Africa’s most accomplished forwards, having enjoyed successful spells with clubs including Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea.
The move to Deportivo offers the experienced striker a fresh challenge in Spain, where he will look to bring leadership, experience and goals to a club aiming to strengthen its position in Spanish football.
For Deportivo, securing a player of Aubameyang’s pedigree represents a major statement of ambition, while for the Gabon international it marks yet another chapter in a distinguished career spanning some of Europe’s top leagues.
