Al-Riyadh complete signing of Egypt star Trezeguet from Al Ahly

Saudi Pro League side Al-Riyadh have completed the signing of Egypt international Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” from Al Ahly after reaching a full agreement with all parties during the summer transfer window.

The transfer was confirmed by Al-Riyadh president Bandar bin Fahd Al-Muqail, who revealed that the experienced winger will join the club following a short break after Egypt’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

“We have finalised the agreement on all the details of the contract with Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, and the player is scheduled to get a week’s leave after the end of his participation with the Egyptian national team in the World Cup,” Al-Muqail told Kora Plus.

The club president also confirmed that the 31-year-old will travel to Al-Riyadh’s pre-season training camp in Austria after his holiday to complete his medical examinations before linking up with his new teammates.

“After the rest period ends, Trezeguet will head to the team’s camp in Austria to undergo a medical examination, and after passing the examinations, he will immediately join the training in preparation for the new season,” he added.

Trezeguet leaves Al Ahly just one year after rejoining the Egyptian champions from Qatari club Al-Rayyan.

His departure reportedly follows discussions with Al Ahly’s management over the club’s wage structure, with the winger opting to pursue a new challenge after being asked to reduce his salary.

Despite his brief second spell with the Red Devils, Trezeguet remained one of the team’s key attacking players.

He made 35 appearances across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing one assist during the 2025/26 campaign.

The move marks Trezeguet’s latest venture abroad after previous spells with clubs including Anderlecht, Kasımpaşa, Aston Villa, İstanbul Başakşehir, Trabzonspor and Al-Rayyan.

He now joins an increasingly competitive Saudi Pro League, where Al-Riyadh hope his experience, creativity and goalscoring ability will strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
