Al-Hilal close in on title with strong line-up against Kiyovu

Al-Hilal Omdurman have completed preparations for a pivotal league encounter against Kiyovu Sport, with head coach Laurentiu Reghecampf expected to field his strongest available side as the club looks to tighten its grip on the Rwandan league title race.

The match, scheduled for Saturday, 18 April at Amahoro Stadium, forms part of the 25th round of the competition and represents a significant moment in Al-Hilal’s campaign. The fixture also highlights an unusual chapter, with the Sudanese side competing alongside compatriots Al-Merrikh SC in the Rwandan league.

Renewed Focus After Continental Exit

A recent pause in the league calendar has provided Reghecampf with an opportunity to regroup following the team’s elimination from the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.

The break allowed the coaching staff to refine tactical preparations and ensure key players are ready for the decisive phase of the domestic campaign. With continental ambitions now on hold, attention has shifted firmly to maintaining domestic dominance.

Attacking Strength Underlines Title Ambitions

Al-Hilal enter the match with an impressive attacking record, having scored 57 goals in 25 matches. This prolific output has been a major factor behind their position at the top of the table, where they currently sit on 55 points.

The team holds a three-point advantage over their nearest rivals, with a game in hand, placing them in a strong position to extend their lead.

Despite this, they will be without forward Adama Coulibaly due to injury. Reghecampf has moved to address the absence by selecting Mazen Fadl to lead the attack, ahead of Mauritanian option Ahmed Salem Mubarak.

Fadl is expected to partner a dynamic attacking unit that includes John Claude, captain Mohamed Abdel Rahman and Sunday Odtonji.

Crucial Fixtures Ahead

The match against Kiyovu Sport is the first of two remaining league fixtures for Al-Hilal’s senior squad in Rwanda, with another encounter scheduled against Musanze later in the month.

These fixtures represent a key opportunity to secure six valuable points before the team returns to Sudan to participate in the Elite League phase, the final stage of the domestic Premier League competition held in Khartoum.

Having been absent from this stage for three years, Al-Hilal are aiming to reassert themselves both domestically and regionally.

Maintaining Momentum Across Competitions

Al-Hilal’s ambitions extend beyond immediate results. The club is seeking to continue its dominance in domestic competitions, building on a track record that includes securing an honorary league lead in Mauritania last season.

With administrative and technical stability underpinning their performances, the team’s current form suggests a consistent and structured approach to achieving success.

Title Within Reach as Pressure Builds

As the Rwandan league season approaches its decisive phase, Al-Hilal appear well-positioned to maintain their advantage. The combination of attacking strength, squad depth and strategic preparation has given them a clear edge. However, with crucial matches still to play, sustaining that momentum will be essential if they are to convert their position into silverware.
