Club outlines dual-league strategy amid push for domestic title retention
Al-Hilal Omdurman have underlined a firm disciplinary stance while confirming detailed preparations for the decisive المرحلة of the Sudanese Premier League, set to resume on 26 April under the “Elite League” format.
Speaking via the club’s official media platform, football director Atef Al-Nour said the team’s preparations are progressing as planned, despite the added challenge of competing simultaneously in the Rwandan league alongside rivals Al-Merrikh.
The announcement comes as the club seeks to regroup following their exit from the CAF Champions League quarter-finals and refocus on domestic and regional objectives.
Structured preparation after continental exit
Al-Nour confirmed that head coach Laurentiu Reghecampf has implemented a tailored programme to prepare the squad for the dual demands of the Sudanese and Rwandan competitions.
“Atef Al-Nour: We look forward to a distinguished performance in the Sudanese and Rwandan leagues.”
He elaborated on the team’s renewed focus, stating: “After the team was eliminated from the quarter-finals of the African Champions League, the coach developed a special program for the Sudanese and Rwandan leagues, and we look forward to a distinguished performance and believe in their importance. We want to maintain the local league title and achieve an honorary lead in the Rwandan league, similar to our honorary title in the Mauritanian league.”
The club has also reintegrated several players who had been rested following an intense run of fixtures across domestic and continental competitions. According to Al-Nour, their return is expected to strengthen the squad’s depth for the upcoming matches.
He added: “The preparation is going as planned by the coach. We have received a number of players who were given a rest after a marathon of tough matches and a series of local and continental games. They have recently joined the training sessions and will support the team’s journey in the Rwandan competition.”
Zero tolerance on discipline
Alongside the technical preparations, Al-Hilal have issued a strong warning regarding player conduct, emphasising that disciplinary rules will be strictly enforced without exception.
“Atef Al-Nour: We will not hesitate to punish any player who oversteps his bounds with Al-Hilal.”
Al-Nour confirmed that sanctions had already been imposed on certain players, highlighting the club’s commitment to maintaining internal standards.
He said: “We did not hesitate to punish any player who made a mistake against the club. We imposed a penalty on Ousmane Diouf after he was sent off with a red card in the Rwandan league, and we imposed a severe penalty on a player who participated in a match outside the club,” adding: “We do not announce these penalties, of course, on the instructions of the head of the football sector, and we will not be lenient in applying the disciplinary regulations, and the club’s principles are a red line that we will not cross.”
High morale ahead of decisive phase
The club’s leadership has expressed confidence in both the technical staff and players as they approach a crucial period in the season. With the Elite League determining the outcome of the domestic title race, Al-Hilal are aiming to maintain their championship status while continuing to compete strongly abroad.
Al-Nour concluded: “Our team is preparing very strongly for the local competition, with high morale, and we aim to achieve more gains. We work with an institutional and well-managed approach, and we seek to create a suitable environment for the technical staff and the players. We are confident that they will achieve victory in the remaining matches of the Rwandan league, and we are confident in retaining the local league title.”
discipline and ambition define Al-Hilal’s approach
Al-Hilal’s approach reflects a combination of strict governance and competitive ambition, as the club balances domestic expectations with regional commitments. With the Elite League approaching and fixtures continuing in Rwanda, their ability to manage discipline and squad fitness may prove decisive in the weeks ahead.
