Al Ahly prepare squad overhaul with recall of loaned players

Egyptian champions Al Ahly SC have decided to bring several loaned players back to the club ahead of next season as part of a wider restructuring plan within the football department.

According to information from a source close to the club, Al Ahly’s management has chosen not to extend the loan spell of left-back Karim El-Debis, who is currently playing for Ceramica Cleopatra FC.

The player is expected to return to Al Ahly at the end of the current campaign after impressing during his time away from the club.

The source said: “Al-Ahly will not renew Karim El-Debis’ loan again, and he will return to support the team starting from next season, especially after he participated effectively in the recent period with his team, which he is playing for on loan, Ceramica Cleopatra.”

The decision comes as Al Ahly continue to deal with difficulties in the left-back position. The club reportedly believes current options have not consistently met expectations, forcing tactical adjustments within the squad.

The source explained that Mohamed Shukri has struggled to deliver the expected performances in the role, leading the coaching staff to use Ahmed Nabil Kouka as an alternative despite the player’s natural position being defensive midfield.

The return of El-Debis is therefore viewed as an attempt to strengthen an area considered problematic during the current season.

Al Ahly are also planning to recall two additional players following successful loan spells elsewhere in the Egyptian league.

The source stated: “Al-Ahly has also decided to bring back Mohamed Abdullah and Ahmed Khaled Kabaka, after the end of their loan spells at Ceramica Cleopatra and Zed respectively, and not to renew them.”

Mohamed Abdullah and Ahmed Khaled Kabaka are expected to rejoin the squad as the club evaluates options for the upcoming campaign.

At the same time, Al Ahly are continuing to assess the future of several other loaned players before making final decisions.

Among those still under evaluation are Omar El-Saai, currently with Al Masry SC, Mohamed Magdy Afsha at Al Ittihad Alexandria Club, and Omar Kamal Abdelwahed following his season with Ceramica Cleopatra.

The club is also considering permanent departures for a number of players currently out on loan.

According to the source, Al Ahly intend to market and sell several professionals, including Slovenian player Gradiscar and Tunisian forward Mohamed Al-Dhaoui Cristo.

The Moroccan pair Reda Slim and Ashraf Dari are also among the players the club could move on, alongside others such as Samir Mohamed of Petrojet SC and Mustafa Makhlouf at Modern Sport FC.

Behind the scenes, Al Ahly’s leadership are working on broader structural changes within the football sector.

Club vice-president Yassin Mansour and board member Sayed Abdel Hafeez are reportedly overseeing plans to complete the restructuring process before 21 May.

The project is intended to prepare the club for new signings, organise player departures, and strengthen the youth development system by introducing new talent into the academy structure.

The latest decisions suggest Al Ahly are preparing for a busy summer as the club looks to reshape its squad and reinforce key positions ahead of next season.
