Al Ahly have completed the renewal of Hussein El Shahat’s contract for the next two seasons, bringing an end to speculation surrounding the future of one of the club’s most experienced attacking players.
The Egyptian winger’s previous deal expired at the conclusion of last season, prompting interest from several clubs. However, negotiations between the player and Al Ahly have now resulted in a new agreement that will keep him at the club for an additional two years.
The development represents another important step in Al Ahly’s efforts to strengthen stability within the first-team squad following a period of significant change in the football department.
According to a source within the club, an agreement was reached after discussions involving Sayed Abdel-Hafiz, a member of Al Ahly’s board and acting general supervisor of football. The official offer presented to El Shahat ultimately convinced the player to remain with the Cairo-based side despite receiving alternative proposals during recent months.
New Deal Places El Shahat Among Club’s Top Earners
The source indicated that El Shahat will continue with the club under terms that recognise his importance to the team.
Under the new agreement, he will be treated as a first-class player within the squad structure. The deal reportedly includes an annual salary of 25 million Egyptian pounds, making him one of the highest-paid members of the team.
In addition to his salary, the contract is said to contain further incentives, including bonuses linked to winning championships and the possibility of securing an advertising agreement through Al Ahly Football Company.
The renewal effectively closes the chapter on players whose contracts expired at the end of last season.
Earlier, the club had also secured the future of Ahmed Nabil Kouka by extending his contract for three additional years. In contrast, Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng departed following the expiration of his agreement and has completed a move to Spanish club Valencia CF.
Attention Turns to More Contract Extensions
With El Shahat’s future resolved, club officials are now expected to focus on a new group of players whose contracts require attention.
The source explained that the next priority involves extending and improving the deals of Mohamed Hany, Mostafa Shobeir, Taher Mohamed Taher and Emam Ashour.
Preparations are already underway to address those situations. Sayed Abdel-Hafiz and contracts manager Dr. Essam Serag El-Din are reportedly compiling a comprehensive report covering the four players, all of whom are scheduled to see their contracts expire at the end of next season.
The objective is to resolve negotiations early and avoid uncertainty, while maintaining continuity and stability within the squad.
Major Football Restructuring Continues at Al Ahly
The contract developments come against the backdrop of a wider restructuring project within Al Ahly’s football sector.
The club recently initiated sweeping changes following the team’s results during the current campaign. As part of those changes, Walid Salah El-Din departed from his position as football director, while assistant coach Adel Mostafa also left the club.
Al Ahly additionally reached a settlement to terminate the contract of Danish head coach Jess Torup and his coaching staff.
Several new appointments have since been confirmed. Wael Gomaa has taken over as football director, while Tunisian coach Anis Boujelbane has been named head of the scouting department. Essam Serag El-Din has assumed responsibility as contracts director.
The club also appointed Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta as the team’s new head coach, with Yasser Radwan joining the technical staff as assistant coach.
Recruitment Plans Underway
Alongside efforts to secure key players on long-term contracts, Al Ahly are also working on strengthening the squad ahead of next season.
Sayed Abdel-Hafiz is currently leading negotiations aimed at bringing new players to the club as part of preparations for the upcoming campaign.
With Hussein El Shahat’s future now settled and a broader restructuring programme in motion, Al Ahly’s management appears focused on creating stability both on and off the pitch while laying the foundations for a stronger challenge next season.
