Brentford eye Senegal’s Pape Matar Sarr as Tottenham future comes under scrutiny

Brentford are reportedly considering a move for Senegal international Pape Matar Sarr as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

According to reports, Bees manager Keith Andrews is a strong admirer of the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, whose future has come under increasing scrutiny following Spurs’ summer recruitment.

Competition growing at Tottenham

Sarr has enjoyed four seasons in north London, developing into a dynamic box-to-box midfielder with the ability to influence matches at both ends of the pitch.

However, the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali have significantly increased competition in Tottenham’s midfield, potentially limiting the Senegal international’s opportunities for regular first-team football under Roberto De Zerbi.

The increased competition could prompt Sarr to consider his options, while Tottenham may be open to a sale as they look to balance their squad after a busy transfer window.

Bees seek midfield reinforcements

Brentford are in the market for a new midfielder following the departure of Jordan Henderson on a free transfer.

The club view Sarr as a player capable of adding energy, athleticism and versatility to the heart of midfield as they prepare for the new campaign.

According to Mail Sport, Brentford have yet to make formal contact with Tottenham, but Andrews’ admiration for the 23-year-old could see their interest develop if he becomes available.

£30 million valuation

Reports suggest an offer of around £30 million could test Tottenham’s resolve, despite Sarr being under contract until 2030.

Such a deal would represent a significant investment for Brentford, whose spending has been relatively measured this summer, with the club having invested around a similar amount on Jannik Schuster and Jaidon Anthony combined.

As the transfer window progresses, Sarr’s future is expected to remain a storyline to watch, with Brentford monitoring developments while Tottenham decide whether the Senegal international remains part of their long-term plans.
