Paris FC open to Samir Chergui offers as Algeria defender weighs uncertain future

Paris FC are prepared to listen to offers for Algeria international Samir Chergui during the summer transfer window, with the club reportedly adopting a different approach to the defender’s future than that of teammate Ilan Kebbal.

While the Ligue 1 side are said to have ruled out a sale of Kebbal, they are willing to consider suitable proposals for Chergui following a season disrupted by injury.

Injury derailed promising campaign

Chergui enjoyed an outstanding start to the 2025/26 season under former head coach Stéphane Gilli, establishing himself as a key figure in Paris FC’s defence.

His consistent performances also earned him a place in Algeria’s national team, where he quickly became part of Vladimir Petković’s plans.

However, his progress was halted by a thigh injury suffered in November.

According to reports, the defender returned earlier than planned in order to represent Algeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a decision that reportedly aggravated the injury and delayed his return until March.

Managerial change limits opportunities

By the time Chergui recovered, Paris FC had undergone a coaching change, with Antoine Kombouaré replacing Gilli.

The new manager’s arrival altered the team’s defensive hierarchy, and Chergui struggled to regain his place in the starting line-up.

He made only limited appearances during the second half of the campaign, a significant contrast to the influential role he had played before his injury.

Algeria continue to show confidence

Despite his reduced club minutes, Chergui retained the confidence of Algeria’s coaching staff.

He remained part of the national squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and featured during the group-stage match against Austria, underlining his continued importance to the Desert Foxes.

Future remains open

Paris FC are now prepared to evaluate offers for the 27-year-old centre-back, although a departure has not yet been decided.

The defender could remain at the club and attempt to establish himself under new head coach Liam Rosenior, but a transfer before the close of the window is also considered a realistic possibility.

Wherever he plays next season, Chergui’s priority will be to regain full fitness after a campaign disrupted by injury and rediscover the form that established him as one of Paris FC’s standout performers before his setback.

The coming weeks are expected to play a crucial role in determining the next chapter of the Algeria international’s career.
