Zed FC’s Ahmed Tarek backs Zamalek for league title and hints at major transfer move

Ahmed Tarek has sparked discussion in Egyptian football after stating that Zamalek SC deserved to win the 2025–26 league title, while also hinting at a potential big transfer move ahead of the new season.

Speaking on ON Sport FM, the ZED FC defender praised Zamalek’s efforts throughout the campaign, suggesting the club’s determination in key moments made them worthy champions.

“Zamalek have been very tired this season, and after losing the Confederation Cup they pushed hard to win the Ceramica Cleopatra match, and they deserve the league title,” he said.

Tarek also highlighted the competitive culture within Zed FC, comparing their mentality to Egypt’s biggest clubs and stressing the importance of maintaining a winning mindset in every match.

“At Zed, like Al Ahly, we don’t accept losing even friendly matches. Coach Mohamed Shawky instilled this mentality in the team,” he added.

Beyond his comments on the title race, the defender also addressed speculation surrounding his future, revealing that negotiations are already underway with two major Egyptian clubs.

“There has been talk in the last two days between two very big clubs in Egypt and Zed FC about my transfer. The two teams are in advanced stages,” he said.

Tarek insisted he is focused on choosing the right project rather than being influenced by club size or fan pressure, while also expressing confidence in his own abilities.

“I am capable of competing with anyone — Al Ahly, Zamalek or Pyramids. I believe I will be the best defender in Egypt,” he stated.

He further added that he believes a call-up to the Egyptian national team is close, while also hinting at ambitions to join one of the country’s top clubs in the near future.

“I will be in the national team soon, and I will be in one of the big clubs in Egypt, God willing,” he concluded.
