Youcef Belaili will continue his career with Esperance Sportive de Tunis after the Tunisian club lifted a sanction involving the Algerian winger, but the decision has reopened a dispute with Mouloudia d’Alger.
Esperance announced in the early hours of Thursday that the sanction had been removed, clearing the way for the contract signed between the club and Belaili to take effect. The 34-year-old is now tied to Esperance Sportive de Tunis until 30 June 2027.
However, the move has raised questions over an earlier agreement Belaili is reported to have signed with Mouloudia d’Alger before reaching a subsequent deal with the Tunisian club. That sequence of events could create complications under FIFA regulations governing players’ contractual commitments.
Mouloudia d’Alger has responded by beginning the first steps of a legal challenge. The Algerian club’s leadership has instructed a lawyer specialising in disputes involving professional football to examine the case and represent its interests.
The MCA has also published a statement about the matter on its Instagram account, setting out the club’s version of events. The details presented by Mouloudia d’Alger could give the dispute a wider legal dimension as the two clubs’ positions become clearer.
Belaili now finds himself at the centre of a dispute involving both his current club and the Algerian side with which he allegedly reached an earlier agreement. Esperance Sportive de Tunis’ decision means his contract with the club can proceed, while Mouloudia d’Alger’s actions indicate that the matter may not end with the lifting of the sanction.
The situation could therefore develop further through the relevant football and legal processes. At this stage, the central issue is whether Belaili’s reported commitment to Mouloudia d’Alger conflicts with the agreement he later signed with Esperance Sportive de Tunis.
The Algeria international, whose market value is estimated at €1.2m, is consequently involved in a stand-off that may produce several more developments. His future with Esperance Sportive de Tunis has been confirmed through 30 June 2027, but the club’s announcement has not settled the disagreement surrounding the circumstances of his move.
Mouloudia d’Alger’s decision to appoint specialist legal representation and publish its account on Instagram signals the seriousness with which it views the matter. The club is seeking to assert its rights after Belaili’s reported earlier commitment, while Esperance Sportive de Tunis has opened the way for its own agreement with the player to come into force.
The dispute now places Belaili’s contractual situation under scrutiny, with FIFA rules likely to be central to any further examination of the competing agreements.
