Barcelona close ‘Goal 1957’ stand after Camavinga incident

Barcelona have temporarily closed their “Goal 1957” supporters’ stand for Saturday’s La Liga match against Deportivo Alaves following a series of disciplinary incidents, including an attack on Eduardo Camavinga during Real Madrid’s goal celebrations in El Clasico.

Real Madrid won the match 2-1, but the closing stages were overshadowed when Camavinga was struck with a flagpole by a supporter as Real Madrid celebrated Kylian Mbappe’s second goal. Objects were also thrown from the stands at Camp Nou, prompting renewed concern about crowd behaviour inside the stadium.

The fixture details accompanying the report list Barcelona v Deportivo Alaves in La Liga on 31 October 2026, while Racing Santander and Real Madrid are listed for La Liga on 01 November 2026.

Police identify supporter

The incident involving Camavinga has become one of the main issues facing Barcelona since the match.

Police identified the supporter allegedly involved using the stadium’s CCTV system, with assistance from the club’s security services. The identification followed a complaint made by La Liga about the incident.

According to Spanish media reports, the supporter could face a fine of up to 60,000 euros, as well as possible restrictions preventing him from entering sports venues.

Barcelona announced the closure of the stand in an official statement published on the club’s website. It said the decision was linked to a series of disciplinary proceedings involving Barcelona and some of its members over behaviour which did not comply with sporting values.

“Barcelona have decided to suspend the activity of the Goal 1957 stand, known as the supporters’ stand, during the next La Liga match against Alaves,” the statement said.

“This decision comes in response to a series of disciplinary proceedings opened against the club and some of its members as a result of behaviour that goes against sporting values. These actions expose the club to financial penalties and the risk of stadium closure, as well as damaging its image.

“The club will meet representatives of the groups that make up the Goal 1957 stand to discuss the situation and establish the commitments required to maintain passionate and respectful support, helping the team without putting FC Barcelona’s property or reputation at risk.

“The club’s wish is for the Goal 1957 stand to return to full operation during the match against Aston Villa, provided these discussions make it possible to resolve the situation and ensure its proper running.

“Support is an important element that the club wishes to preserve, based on everyone’s shared commitment and responsibility, in the interests of FC Barcelona.”
