Wydad Casablanca president Hicham Aït Menna and his board have announced their resignation following a troubled campaign, bringing an end to a tenure that began in July 2024.
The decision, confirmed on Sunday, 3 May 2026, will take effect at the club’s next elective general assembly. It comes after months of mounting pressure from members and supporters, amid disappointing results both domestically and in continental competition.
Wydad entered the season with high expectations after investing heavily in their squad, recruiting experienced names such as Hakim Ziyech, Nordin Amrabat and Wissam Ben Yedder. However, despite the high-profile additions, the team struggled to find consistency and cohesion.
A poor run of form, including an eight-match winless streak, intensified scrutiny on the club’s leadership. Their difficulties have been reflected in the league standings, with Wydad currently fourth in the Botola Pro following a recent defeat to Renaissance de Zemamra.
There was also disappointment on the continental stage, as Wydad were knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup at the quarter-final stage by Olympique Club de Safi.
Instability extended to the technical bench, with several coaching changes during the campaign, including the dismissal of Patrice Carteron. The frequent changes further disrupted the team’s progress during a challenging season.
In a statement, the club’s leadership said the decision to step down was intended to allow for an orderly transition, following criticism over the management of both sporting and administrative matters.
Wydad has outlined a timeline for the transition process. Membership registration for the 2026–2027 season will run from 5 May to 5 June, while candidates for the presidency can submit applications between 5 June and 20 June. The elective general assembly will then determine the club’s next leadership.
The resignation marks a significant moment for one of Morocco’s most prominent clubs. With expectations remaining high among supporters, attention will now turn to the upcoming elections and the direction the club will take as it seeks to restore stability and return to success.
