Everton are preparing a move for defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka following the relegation of West Ham United to the Championship, with the Merseyside club ready to table a bid in the region of £10 million.
Reports suggest Everton view the 28-year-old right-back as a key target to strengthen their defensive options ahead of next season, as they look to rebuild after a difficult campaign.
West Ham’s relegation has triggered major financial pressure at the club, with the Hammers now expected to generate more than £150 million through player sales. The drop to the Championship is estimated to have cost the club around £100 million in lost revenue, increasing the urgency to balance their books during the upcoming transfer window.
Wan-Bissaka only joined West Ham from Manchester United in the summer of 2024 for a reported €17.6 million. He quickly became part of the squad, making his debut as a substitute in a 4-2 Premier League win over Crystal Palace on 24 August 2024. Just days later, he earned his first start and featured in an EFL Cup victory over AFC Bournemouth.
Over the course of the season, the defender made 27 appearances in all competitions and contributed three assists, establishing himself as a consistent presence in the side despite the team’s struggles.
Several other Premier League clubs are also believed to be monitoring his situation, with interest expected to grow as West Ham prepare for life in the second tier. His availability could make him one of the more attractive defensive options on the market this summer.
Wan-Bissaka’s reputation remains built on his strong tackling, one-on-one defending and ability to shut down opposition wingers, qualities that continue to appeal to top-flight clubs. Everton, in particular, are said to see him as a smart and cost-effective addition as they attempt to stabilise their back line.
A potential move to Goodison Park would also allow the defender to remain in the Premier League, avoiding the drop in competition level following West Ham’s relegation.
For West Ham, however, his departure would form part of a wider squad overhaul as the club prepares for a challenging rebuild in the Championship. The financial implications of relegation are expected to force several sales, with key players likely to attract interest from across England and Europe.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Wan-Bissaka’s future is expected to become one of the early talking points, with Everton currently positioning themselves as strong contenders to secure his signature.
