Koulibaly Recovery Boosts Senegal Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly is making encouraging progress in his recovery from a muscle injury ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the national team’s medical staff increasingly optimistic about his availability for the tournament.

The experienced defender, who plays for Al Hilal, suffered a grade two thigh tear accompanied by a hematoma during training, initially raising fears that he could miss part of Senegal’s World Cup preparations.

Before reporting to the national team camp, Koulibaly submitted a full medical report to Senegal’s medical department, allowing staff to carefully monitor and coordinate his rehabilitation programme ahead of the competition.

Despite the concern surrounding the injury, there is growing confidence within the camp that the defender will recover in time to feature at the tournament across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Senegal medical staff continue to supervise his treatment closely, with a cautious approach being taken to ensure the captain regains full fitness without unnecessary risks before the opening match.

Koulibaly remains one of the most important figures in coach Pape Thiaw’s squad, bringing leadership, experience and defensive stability to the Lions of Teranga.

As captain, the former Chelsea FC and Napoli defender is viewed as a central figure both on and off the pitch, particularly during high-pressure international tournaments.

While Senegal continue to monitor his recovery carefully, current indications suggest the rehabilitation process is progressing positively, boosting hopes that Koulibaly will be ready to lead the team at the World Cup.
