Ivory Coast youngster Franck Adams Rahim Koné has taken another step in his European career after completing a move from Fenerbahçe’s U19 side to Portuguese club Vitória Guimarães.
The 19-year-old becomes Vitória Guimarães B’s first signing of the summer and will begin his new challenge with the reserve team, which competes in Portugal’s Liga 3.
His contract also includes an option for a further two seasons, underlining the Portuguese club’s long-term belief in the Ivorian midfielder’s potential.
The transfer marks another important milestone for one of Ivory Coast’s emerging talents as African players continue to pursue development opportunities across Europe.
Vitória Guimarães confirmed the arrival of Koné through the club’s official communication channels, announcing him as the first addition to the B team ahead of the new campaign.
The move follows a brief spell in Turkey, where Koné joined Fenerbahçe in 2025 to feature for the club’s Under-19 side.
Before relocating to Turkey, the defensive midfielder had spent his entire football career in Ivory Coast.
His latest transfer therefore represents another significant step in his development, with Portugal becoming the second European country in which he will continue his football education.
For the young Ivorian, the move is about much more than simply changing clubs.
It also offers the opportunity to continue his growth in a new environment renowned for developing young footballers before they progress to higher levels of the European game.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Koné explained that Vitória Guimarães’ commitment to nurturing young talent played a decisive role in his decision.
“The focus on young players makes me believe this is the best project for me. Although I’ve only been here a few days and don’t know everything, I researched before signing and realized this would be a huge but exciting challenge for me,” he explained.
His comments reflect both the ambition and patience required from many young African footballers seeking to establish themselves in Europe.
Rather than joining an established first-team squad immediately, Koné will begin with Vitória’s reserve side, where he is expected to continue his development while adapting to Portuguese football.
The long-term nature of his contract suggests the club sees considerable potential in the midfielder.
An agreement running until 2029, with the possibility of extending for two additional years, provides stability as he works towards earning opportunities at a higher level.
For Ivory Coast, Koné’s move is another example of the country’s growing pipeline of young players securing opportunities with European clubs.
The West African nation has consistently produced footballers capable of succeeding abroad, and the teenager will hope to follow that path in Portugal.
While he still has plenty of work ahead before reaching senior football’s highest level, the move gives him a platform to continue improving in a competitive environment.
Vitória Guimarães, meanwhile, have strengthened their reserve squad with a player they believe can develop over the coming years.
