Brighton lead race for Lamine Camara as Monaco demand up to €56m

Senegal midfielder Lamine Camara has emerged as one of the most sought-after African players in the summer transfer window, with Premier League clubs Brighton, Newcastle United and Aston Villa all linked with the 22-year-old.

However, AS Monaco are prepared to drive a hard bargain, with reports suggesting the Ligue 1 club will only consider offers between €44 million and €56 million for the Senegal international.

The valuation underlines Monaco’s determination to retain one of their brightest young talents unless a club is willing to meet their financial demands.

Camara’s growing reputation is another indication of the continent’s increasing influence in Europe’s top leagues, with the Senegalese midfielder continuing to attract attention following his rapid development in France.

Brighton were the first Premier League side to show serious interest in signing Camara, with the club identifying him as a potential addition to its midfield.

That interest has since been echoed by transfer specialist Ekrem Konur, who reports that Monaco have no intention of allowing the player to leave for a reduced fee.

The French club’s stance reflects the confidence it has in a player who has quickly become one of the most highly rated midfielders of his generation.

Camara joined Monaco after impressing at FC Metz and has continued his upward trajectory since arriving in the Principality.

Known for his energy, technical ability and maturity in midfield, the Senegal international has established himself as one of Ligue 1’s standout young players.

His performances have not only strengthened Monaco’s midfield but have also increased his profile across Europe, particularly in England.

Brighton are not the only club monitoring the situation.

Reports suggest Newcastle United have also added Camara to their shortlist as part of a major squad rebuilding project.

The Magpies are reportedly planning significant investment during the transfer window, with Camara among several midfield targets being considered.

Aston Villa have also maintained a long-standing interest in the Senegalese international.

According to the reports, the Birmingham club have tracked Camara’s progress for several months and have closely monitored his performances as they assess potential reinforcements.

The growing competition among Premier League clubs could increase the likelihood of Monaco receiving offers that match their valuation.

Camara’s stock has risen further following his involvement with Senegal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Although the reports do not detail his performances during the tournament, his participation on football’s biggest stage has further enhanced his reputation at a time when clubs across Europe are searching for young midfield talent.

His current market value is estimated at €40 million, but Monaco’s asking price suggests they believe his potential and importance to the team justify a significantly higher fee.
