Turkish transfer battle emerges as Marmoush attracts interest from Galatasaray

Egyptian international Omar Marmoush has emerged as a transfer target for Turkish Super League champions Galatasaray, with reports suggesting the Manchester City forward could be at the centre of a potential loan move during the current summer transfer window.

The 2026 World Cup squad member is said to be considering his future at the Etihad Stadium after struggling to establish himself as a regular starter since joining Manchester City in January 2025.

Marmoush has featured in a significant number of matches across all competitions, but limited starting opportunities have reportedly prompted interest in a move that would guarantee more consistent game time.

Galatasaray Leading Interest

According to Turkish newspaper A Spor, Galatasaray have placed Marmoush at the top of their shortlist as they look to reinforce their attacking options ahead of the 2026-2027 season.

The Istanbul-based club, which has dominated Turkish football in recent years by winning the league title for four consecutive seasons, is reportedly planning for a possible major change in its attacking line.

A key factor behind Galatasaray’s interest is the uncertain future of Argentine striker Mauro Icardi, whose contract situation remains unresolved. The club is said to be preparing for the possibility that the 33-year-old may leave or fail to renew his deal.

Loan Plan Considered for Icardi Replacement

The report claims that Galatasaray’s strategy involves potentially securing Marmoush on a one-season loan from Manchester City.

Such a deal would, in theory, allow the Egyptian forward to gain regular first-team football while also giving the Turkish champions a high-profile attacking replacement.

The proposed move is also said to include the opportunity for Marmoush to feature in the UEFA Champions League, a key factor that could make the switch more attractive to the player.

While no agreement has been reached, the structure of the potential deal highlights Galatasaray’s intent to remain competitive at both domestic and European level while managing squad transitions.

Possibility of Egyptian Rivalry in Turkey

The emergence of interest in Marmoush comes at a time when Turkish football could also see another major Egyptian transfer story unfold.

Reports have suggested that Fenerbahce have made an initial approach for Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, the former Liverpool forward, raising the possibility of two of Egypt’s biggest football names competing in Turkey’s top flight.

If both moves were to materialise, Turkish stadiums could become the stage for a renewed Egyptian rivalry, echoing comparisons with high-profile duels previously seen in English football.

Marmoush’s Record at Manchester City

Since his move to Manchester City in January 2025 for a reported fee of €75 million, Marmoush has gone on to make 61 appearances in all competitions.

During that period, he has scored 16 goals and provided six assists, contributing to the squad while competing for a regular starting position in a highly competitive attacking unit.

Despite those numbers, the forward’s limited consistency in the starting XI has fuelled speculation over his long-term future in Manchester.

Uncertain Future Ahead of New Season

With Galatasaray monitoring his situation closely and loan discussions reportedly under consideration, Marmoush’s future remains open heading into the new campaign.

Any potential move would depend on negotiations between the clubs and the player’s willingness to seek increased playing time elsewhere, particularly with the prospect of European football on offer in Turkey.

For now, the Egyptian forward remains a Manchester City player, but interest from Istanbul has added a new dimension to his summer transfer narrative.
