The Tunisian Football Federation is considering appointing Anis Boujelbene as the national team’s next head coach as uncertainty continues over the future of current manager Hervé Renard.
Tunisia are assessing their options after their early exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with federation officials yet to confirm who will lead the Carthage Eagles into their next international campaign.
Renard, who took charge midway through the tournament following the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi, has not made a final decision on whether he intends to remain in the role beyond the World Cup.
The French coach was appointed after Lamouchi was relieved of his duties following Tunisia’s disappointing performances during the group stage.
Although Renard was brought in to steady the team during the tournament, discussions over his future are still ongoing, with the Tunisian Football Federation reportedly keen to persuade the former Morocco and Saudi Arabia coach to continue.
However, officials are also preparing for the possibility that Renard may opt not to stay.
Reports suggest the federation is increasingly inclined to appoint a domestic coach should negotiations with the Frenchman fail to produce an agreement.
Anis Boujelbene, who currently oversees Tunisia’s Under-23 side, has emerged as the leading candidate to take over the senior national team.
Boujelbene has earned a strong reputation through his work with the country’s youth teams and is regarded as a coach with a deep understanding of Tunisia’s football system and emerging generation of players.
His appointment would represent a move towards a longer-term rebuilding strategy, with a greater emphasis on developing homegrown talent following Tunisia’s disappointing World Cup campaign.
The Tunisian Football Federation is expected to reach a decision on the managerial position in the coming weeks as preparations begin for future international competitions and qualification campaigns.
