Totti: Real Madrid move could have earned me the Ballon dOr

Former Roma captain Francesco Totti says he does not regret turning down Real Madrid in 2004, although he still wonders what might have happened had he joined the Spanish club.

Real Madrid’s squad at the time included David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane, with the team widely known as the “Galacticos”.

“I wouldn’t say I regret it, but there is still a feeling of ‘what if?’” Totti told Corriere della Sera.

“In 2004, the Galacticos had players such as Beckham and Zidane – and they were called that for a reason. I would have won everything. Maybe I would even have won the Ballon d’Or.

“But in the end, everything worked out well. At that moment, I made the decision by listening to my heart.”

Totti spent his entire playing career with Roma.
