Tariq Lamptey set for Fiorentina departure after injuries

Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey is reportedly close to leaving Fiorentina less than a year after joining the Italian club, following a season heavily disrupted by injury problems.

Italian outlet TMwRadio has reported that Fiorentina and the 25-year-old are moving towards terminating his contract by mutual consent, with an agreement expected to be completed soon.

Lamptey joined the Serie A side from Brighton in June 2025 on a four-year deal reportedly worth six million euros. His arrival in Florence had been viewed as an important step in his career after establishing himself in English football, but his time in Italy has been overshadowed by fitness setbacks.

The defender managed only two appearances before suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament during his first start for the club. The serious knee injury ruled him out for most of the season and significantly limited his opportunities to make an impact at Fiorentina.

According to the report, both Lamptey and the club are now close to reaching an agreement that would see him leave before completing even a full season of his contract.

Neither Fiorentina nor Lamptey has officially confirmed the reported termination, but the latest developments suggest that an exit could be imminent.

The situation comes at a difficult moment for the Ghana international, with the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching. Lamptey was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 tournament in Qatar and had been expected to compete for a place in the team again for the next edition of the competition, which will be staged in North America.

However, his long spell on the sidelines and limited playing time have raised uncertainty over whether he will be able to regain full fitness and return to international contention in time for the tournament.

Lamptey’s move to Fiorentina had initially offered the prospect of a fresh challenge in one of Europe’s major leagues. After leaving Brighton for Italy in a deal reported to be worth six million euros, he signed a contract intended to keep him at the club for four years.

But the campaign quickly became difficult after his injury problems intensified. Having made only two appearances, the defender’s season was effectively halted by the ACL rupture sustained during his first start for the club.

The reported mutual termination would bring an abrupt end to what had been expected to be a long-term stay with La Viola.

For now, there has been no official statement from either side regarding the future of the player, though reports in Italy indicate that negotiations over the termination are progressing and could soon be concluded.

If confirmed, Lamptey would become available for a move elsewhere as he attempts to rebuild his career and recover full fitness ahead of a crucial period for both club and country.
