Zimbabwe international Tawanda Maswanhisi has reportedly rejected the possibility of joining Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC next season, despite growing speculation linking the striker with a summer transfer.
Reports in recent days had suggested that Al Ahly were considering the Motherwell FC forward as one of the attacking options capable of strengthening the squad ahead of the new campaign.
However, the player’s representative has now dismissed the rumours and indicated there is no prospect of the move taking place.
Tony Appiah, the striker’s agent, rejected the idea of Maswanhisi joining the Egyptian side during exclusive comments discussing the player’s future.
He said: “There is no chance of Tawanda moving to play in Egypt with Al Ahly.”
The agent also denied reports of formal communication between the parties, adding: “So far, no one from Al Ahly club officials has contacted us to negotiate regarding the player.”
Maswanhisi, 23, is currently regarded as one of the emerging attacking talents linked with a number of clubs after a productive season in Scotland.
According to Transfermarkt, the Zimbabwean forward has an estimated market value of 3.5 million euros and remains under contract with Motherwell until the summer of 2027.
The striker joined the Scottish side in the summer of 2024 after leaving Leicester City FC on a free transfer.
Since arriving at Motherwell, Maswanhisi has enjoyed an impressive campaign, making 41 appearances in all competitions. During that period, he scored 22 goals and provided two assists, numbers that reportedly attracted attention from clubs searching for attacking reinforcements.
Al Ahly are believed to be prioritising the signing of a striker during the upcoming transfer window as they prepare for next season and evaluate the current squad.
The Egyptian club’s search for attacking additions comes amid uncertainty over several forwards. The article states that Al Ahly have decided not to make the stay of Yeltsin Kamos permanent, while Mohamed Sherif has not produced the level of performance expected by the club.
As a result, the Cairo-based side continue to assess alternatives capable of strengthening the attacking line before the next campaign begins.
The latest development represents a setback for Al Ahly’s recruitment plans, particularly after Maswanhisi’s productive season in Scotland increased interest in the player.
Away from transfer matters, Al Ahly are continuing their preparations for a decisive domestic fixture against Al Masry SC on 20 May in the seventh and final round of the Egyptian Premier League championship group.
The club currently occupies third place in the standings with 50 points, sitting one point behind Pyramids FC in second and three points behind league leaders Zamalek SC.
To retain the league title, Al Ahly require Zamalek to lose points while also hoping Pyramids fail to secure a positive result.
With pressure mounting both on and off the pitch, Al Ahly’s management now face the challenge of strengthening the squad while maintaining hopes of another domestic triumph.
