Al Ahly transfer plans thrown into doubt after agent’s statements

Prominent football agent Adam Watani has made a series of unexpected statements regarding the futures of several Egyptian players linked with Al Ahly SC, claiming that four of his clients will not be part of the club next season.

Watani’s remarks focused on Emam Ashour, Mohamed Abdel Moneim, Mostafa Mohamed and Mohamed Abdullah, all of whom have recently been connected with possible moves involving Al Ahly.

The comments come amid growing speculation surrounding the Cairo club’s plans for the upcoming transfer window as they prepare for next season.

Recent reports suggested that Al Ahly were attempting to persuade Mohamed Abdel Moneim to return from OGC Nice during the summer transfer period. The defender left Al Ahly in 2024 and moved to the French side in a deal handled by Watani himself.

At the same time, there had also been reports that Al Ahly intended to bring back Mohamed Abdullah after his loan spell with Ceramica Cleopatra FC ends this season.

Speculation has additionally surrounded Mostafa Mohamed following the relegation of FC Nantes to the French second division. The striker has been linked with several Egyptian clubs, including Al Ahly, Pyramids FC and Zamalek SC.

Meanwhile, uncertainty continues over the future of Emam Ashour despite the midfielder remaining under contract with Al Ahly until the summer of 2028.

In exclusive comments to WinWin, Watani firmly dismissed suggestions that Abdel Moneim could make a return to Egyptian football.

“Mohamed Abdel Moneim will not return to Egypt, he will never return to Egypt.”

The agent also indicated that Mostafa Mohamed was more likely to continue his career abroad rather than move back to Egypt.

“Mostafa Mohamed will most likely stay in Europe, while Emam Ashour will leave.”

Watani then addressed Mohamed Abdullah’s future, claiming the player would not rejoin Al Ahly after his loan spell.

“Mohamed Abdullah will also be out of Al Ahly, he will not return to Al Ahly.. I have an agreement with them, and I am sure they will honor their word.”

The statements are likely to raise further questions among Al Ahly supporters regarding the club’s transfer strategy ahead of next season.

Watani plays a significant role in the careers of several high-profile Egyptian footballers. He serves as the representative for Emam Ashour and Mohamed Abdel Moneim, while also being involved in the management of Mostafa Mohamed’s affairs. He additionally represents Mohamed Abdullah.

His latest comments could have major implications for Al Ahly’s recruitment plans, particularly as the club has reportedly been assessing ways to strengthen its squad for the coming campaign.

For now, however, no official response has been issued by Al Ahly regarding Watani’s claims, leaving uncertainty surrounding the futures of the four players.

The remarks are expected to intensify speculation over transfer activity in Egypt and Europe during the summer window, especially concerning players viewed as important figures within Egyptian football.
