Polish club Cracovia have announced the signing of Senegalese central defender Sergine Seck, with the 18-year-old set to begin his career in Poland with the club’s reserve side.
Seck has signed a one-year contract with Cracovia, which includes an option to extend the agreement by another 12 months.
He will initially represent Cracovia II rather than joining the senior first-team squad.
The move represents the teenager’s first step into European football after developing in Senegal with ASC Cambérène.
Cracovia have opted to introduce Seck gradually, giving the young defender an opportunity to adapt to a new footballing environment before potentially competing for a place closer to the first team.
Seck had already played at the highest level of Senegalese domestic football before making the move to Poland.
His experience in the local league helped establish him as a promising young defender, but Cracovia will now assess how quickly he can adjust to the demands of the Polish game.
The club has not guaranteed the teenager a first-team role. Instead, Seck will be expected to prove himself with Cracovia II, where he can continue his development while becoming accustomed to life in a new country.
Cracovia II is the reserve team of KS Cracovia, one of Poland’s oldest professional clubs. The side is largely made up of young players developing their careers, with an average age of under 20.
The reserve team competes in Poland’s lower leagues and uses the Cracovia Training Center in Rączna for its home matches.
That environment could provide Seck with an important bridge between Senegalese football and the demands of European competition.
At 18, the defender will have to adapt to differences in playing style, tempo and physical demands.
Polish football will also require him to become familiar with tactical expectations that may differ from those he experienced during his development in Senegal.
His initial months at Cracovia are therefore likely to be particularly important.
Regular football with the reserve team should give the club an opportunity to monitor his progress while allowing Seck to gradually settle into his new surroundings.
The defender’s development will also determine whether he can eventually move closer to the Cracovia first-team setup and compete for opportunities in the Ekstraklasa.
For Seck, the transfer represents a significant change in his young career. Having begun his football journey with ASC Cambérène, he will now continue his development thousands of kilometres away from Senegal.
The one-year agreement, together with the option for another 12 months, gives both the player and the club time to assess how the partnership develops.
