Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou says his side’s emphatic 6-0 victory over TS Galaxy was a clear response to critics who have questioned the team’s commitment.
Pirates produced a dominant display in Mbombela on Sunday, overwhelming a 10-man Galaxy side to move to the top of the Betway Premiership standings with 51 points. They now sit one point ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand.
The victory was highlighted by a hat-trick from Mofokeng, as Pirates delivered one of their most commanding performances of the season. The result not only strengthened their title push but also reinforced their credentials as serious contenders.
Speaking after the match, Ouaddou praised his players for their performance and insisted the result should silence doubts about their attitude and effort.
“I think more than a reaction it’s a fantastic game for us,” said Ouaddou.
“It’s a very good answer for people who have a doubt about the commitment of the boys. You know I always say that there is nobody in our team that come out on the pitch willing to lose or willing to draw.
“And I think some people have to understand that all players are sweating in their shirt. It’s simple we scored six goals today because we have fantastic support by the true fans.”
Ouaddou also used the opportunity to highlight the importance of fan support, suggesting that the team performs at a higher level when backed positively from the stands.
“Every time when we come here in that city we have a fantastic support. Every time when we go to Durban, we have fantastic support and the players they feel that fantastic support.
“But unfortunately, when you miss the ball or you draw people start to boo the players. This is not true supporters, and you can see that when people support very well the players, the players they give everything.”
The Pirates coach concluded by reiterating his belief in the squad’s determination to compete for the title until the very end of the season.
“So, congratulations to the boys today. We sent just a strong message that we are not tired, and we are going to fight until the last second like I said.”
With momentum now firmly on their side, Orlando Pirates will look to maintain their position at the summit as the title race intensifies in the coming weeks.
