Nigeria midfielder Raphael Onyedika is edging closer to leaving Belgian champions Club Brugge, with Eintracht Frankfurt stepping up negotiations over a possible transfer.
The Bundesliga club has increased its efforts to sign the 25-year-old after making an initial offer last week, although Club Brugge rejected the proposal as it fell short of their valuation.
Discussions between the two clubs are continuing, with a deal now considered increasingly possible. Club Brugge are understood to be holding firm on their asking price of €10m for the midfielder.
Onyedika is entering the final year of his contract with the Belgian club and has turned down a number of offers to extend his stay. With the player yet to commit his future to Brugge, the club is now keen to secure a transfer this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires.
The negotiations with Frankfurt are expected to continue in the coming days and an agreement could potentially be reached soon.
Onyedika joined Club Brugge in the summer of 2022 and has since become an important member of the first team. He has made 183 appearances for the club, playing a significant role in a successful period that has produced several domestic honours.
During his time in Belgium, the Nigeria international has helped Club Brugge win two Belgian league titles, in the 2023-24 and 2025-26 seasons. He was also part of the side that lifted the Belgian Cup in 2025 and won the Belgian Supercup in the same year.
His performances have made him a key figure in the Brugge midfield and attracted interest from clubs outside Belgium.
Frankfurt’s interest in Onyedika is not new. The German club had previously explored the possibility of signing him last summer and has continued to monitor his situation.
The player has also been keen to pursue a new challenge and is now looking to make the next move in his career after four years at Club Brugge.
The two parties had already reached an understanding in January that the Belgian side would be prepared to allow Onyedika to leave if an acceptable offer was received. Frankfurt subsequently indicated to the player and his representatives that they intended to return for him during the current transfer window.
That commitment has now resulted in renewed talks between the German and Belgian clubs.
For Club Brugge, the midfielder’s contract situation has added urgency to the negotiations. Having rejected several attempts to secure a new deal, Onyedika could leave as a free agent at the end of the season if he remains at the club and no agreement is reached.
The Belgian champions therefore appear ready to consider his departure this summer, provided Frankfurt meet their €10m valuation.
Frankfurt’s initial bid was not enough to persuade Club Brugge to sell, but negotiations have continued in a positive atmosphere. The German side is now steadily moving closer to the Belgian club’s position as it seeks to complete a deal for the Nigeria international.
With talks progressing and both sides continuing discussions, Onyedika’s long association with Club Brugge could be nearing its conclusion, with a move to the Bundesliga increasingly likely.
