Nigeria battle back twice to share spoils with Poland in friendly

A spirited comeback from Nigeria earned a 2-2 draw against Poland in an international friendly at the National Stadium in Warsaw, with both sides trading goals in an entertaining encounter.

The hosts struck first in the 21st minute when captain Robert Lewandowski finished a well-worked move to put Poland ahead. Nigeria, however, responded well under pressure and gradually grew into the contest after a cautious opening spell.

Their persistence was rewarded just before half-time when Terem Moffi levelled in the 42nd minute, ensuring the teams went into the break locked at 1-1 after an evenly balanced first half.

Poland regained control early in the second half, with Piotr Zieliński restoring their advantage in the 58th minute after Nigeria were briefly caught out in transition. The goal shifted momentum back towards the hosts, who looked to manage the game from midfield.

But Nigeria showed resilience once again, refusing to fade. A well-timed substitution paid off in the 72nd minute when Paul Onuachu rose highest to head home the equaliser, completing a determined response from Eric Chelle’s side.

Despite the absence of key attackers Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, Nigeria demonstrated depth and character against a Poland side led by Lewandowski and featuring several experienced European-based players.

The result will be viewed positively by the Super Eagles’ technical team, particularly for the team’s ability to recover twice away from home and maintain attacking threat throughout the match.
