Napoli step up efforts to keep Cameroon midfielder Zambo Anguissa

Napoli are intensifying efforts to extend the contract of Cameroon international Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, with new head coach Massimiliano Allegri pushing strongly for the midfielder to remain at the club.

Anguissa’s current contract is approaching its expiry, and the midfielder had previously considered leaving Napoli following a difficult campaign.

However, his situation appears to have changed significantly since Allegri took charge.

The latest development came at Napoli’s pre-season training camp in Castel di Sangro, where Anguissa’s agent, Maxime Nana, was reportedly seen alongside a representative of Allegri.

The meeting is being viewed as a possible sign that negotiations over a contract extension could resume in the coming days.

Allegri wants Anguissa to stay

Allegri has reportedly been impressed by Anguissa’s performances and commitment during pre-season.

The Italian coach considers the Cameroon international an important part of his plans and believes Napoli should make every effort to retain a midfielder with his experience and quality.

Anguissa’s improved standing under the new coach has therefore shifted his situation from uncertainty towards renewed importance within the squad.

Although the player had previously been open to a departure, Allegri’s desire to keep him has given Napoli fresh motivation to negotiate a new agreement.

De Laurentiis must now act

The final decision will largely rest with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who must present Anguissa’s representatives with a contract capable of convincing the midfielder to remain in Naples.

No agreement has yet been reached, but the reported presence of Nana at Castel di Sangro alongside Allegri’s representative suggests that discussions could soon restart.

Napoli will now have to determine the financial package required to satisfy Anguissa and his representatives.

The midfielder’s pre-season displays have strengthened the argument for keeping him, with his consistency and involvement making a positive impression on Allegri and his coaching staff.

For now, Anguissa’s future remains unresolved, but Napoli’s position is becoming increasingly clear: Allegri wants the Cameroon international to stay, and the club are preparing to reopen negotiations over a new contract.
