Olympique de Marseille have been unable to reach an agreement to re-sign former midfielder Olivier Ntcham as they continue to look for affordable ways to strengthen their squad.
The French club explored the possibility of bringing Ntcham back to the Stade Velodrome, according to Foot Mercato. However, discussions between Marseille and the player did not lead to a deal, meaning the proposed return has failed to materialise.
Marseille are seeking solutions that would improve the squad while limiting their financial commitments. The club’s approach this season is focused on maintaining economic stability, with recruitment decisions being shaped by the need to keep spending under control.
That strategy has led Olympique de Marseille to examine players whose financial demands are considered manageable. The club has also been preparing for departures, including that of Nayef Aguerd, and has therefore been assessing options that would not place a significant additional burden on its finances.
Ntcham emerged as one possible solution because of his previous connection with the club. The midfielder spent time with Marseille in 2021, making a return a familiar option as the club considers how to reinforce its squad.
Despite the interest, Foot Mercato reports that the two sides were unable to find common ground. The nature of the disagreement was not specified, but the lack of an agreement has ended Marseille’s attempt to bring Ntcham back.
The player has now reached the end of his contract with Turkish club Samsunspor. That status made him a potential option for Marseille as they looked for a signing that fitted their preference for limited financial demands.
For now, however, Ntcham will not be returning to Olympique de Marseille. The club must continue its search for other recruitment solutions while maintaining the economic stability it has made a priority this season.
