Manchester United’s strong Italian record offers hope before Roma visit

Manchester United will look to their impressive home record against Italian opposition for encouragement when Roma visit Old Trafford in the Champions League group stage on 4 November.

The match will kick off at 4:00 AM Beijing Time, with the Red Devils attempting to end a run of nine games without a victory in all competitions.

Although Manchester United’s current form has been poor, their record in European home fixtures against Italian clubs is considerably stronger. They have lost only three of 21 such matches, recording 15 wins and three draws. None of those games finished goalless.

Their recent record is even more impressive. Manchester United have won eight of their past 10 home meetings with Italian sides, drawing once and losing once. The most recent of those victories came against Atalanta, when they won 3-2 in the 2021/22 Champions League group stage.

The English club are also unbeaten in their last eight European matches at Old Trafford, a sequence that includes seven wins and one draw.

Their first Champions League home game this season ended in another convincing result, as Manchester United defeated Sabah 4-0.

Roma’s visit therefore comes at a difficult moment for Manchester United in terms of overall results, but their historical record at home against Italian opposition provides a more positive backdrop ahead of Matchday 4.
