Senegal manager Patrick Vieira is reportedly considering a recall for Sadio Mané ahead of the November international break, with Stade Brestois winger Pathé Mboup also in contention for his first senior national team call-up.
Vieira is expected to announce his squad on Thursday for Senegal’s upcoming double-header against Sudan in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the matches scheduled for November 12 and 16.
Mané missed Senegal’s previous international camp because of a physical problem but is now reportedly in line to return.
The 34-year-old remains one of the country’s most influential players and his experience could prove valuable as Vieira continues to reshape the squad.
A return would also offer Mané an opportunity to feature in front of the home supporters, with Senegal scheduled to host Sudan at the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor.
Iliman Ndiaye is another player expected to feature in the plans. The Everton forward missed Senegal’s opening two qualifying matches through suspension before appearing in the 1-0 friendly victory over Comoros in Marseille.
However, Mboup could emerge as one of the biggest talking points when the squad is unveiled.
The 23-year-old Brest winger has reportedly attracted the coaching staff’s attention after making an encouraging start to the Ligue 1 campaign. He has started each of the club’s first nine league matches, scoring twice and providing one assist.
His pace, direct approach and ability to operate on either flank could offer Senegal another attacking option.
Mboup previously had spells with Standard Liège and Pau before establishing himself at Brest, where his recent performances have strengthened his case for international recognition.
A first call-up would place him among a competitive group of attacking players that includes Mané, Ndiaye, Nicolas Jackson, Boulaye Dia, Ibrahim Mbaye, Assane Diao and Abdallah Sima.
Ismaïla Sarr’s fitness could also influence Vieira’s final selection, with the winger reportedly facing uncertainty after missing the previous camp.
Senegal’s squad announcement will reveal whether Vieira opts to bring back an established leader while rewarding Mboup’s club form as the team prepares for its next qualifying assignments.
