Manchester United FC are reportedly considering a move for Eduardo Camavinga as the club continues its search for midfield reinforcements, with Cameroon international Carlos Baleba still viewed as a leading target but potentially too expensive.
The Premier League side had already spent heavily during the 2025 summer transfer window, bringing in Senne Lammens, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko in deals reportedly worth more than £225m combined.
Even after that spending spree, Manchester United were still linked with a late move for Brighton midfielder Baleba as the club looked for a long-term replacement for Casemiro.
Reports suggested personal terms with the Cameroon midfielder had been broadly agreed, highlighting how highly the 22-year-old was regarded at Old Trafford.
However, Brighton were reportedly unwilling to sell unless their valuation of more than £100m was met, forcing United to step back from negotiations.
Almost a year later, Baleba remains under consideration as United continue planning for a midfield reshuffle ahead of next season.
The Cameroonian has developed into one of Africa’s most closely watched young midfielders since leaving LOSC Lille for Brighton.
Although the midfielder reportedly started only 22 Premier League matches this season, his performances have continued to attract interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Baleba’s athleticism, defensive awareness and ability to progress the ball through midfield have made him one of the standout African talents currently playing in England.
But while United still admire the Cameroon international, reports suggest Camavinga could now emerge as a more realistic option.
The Real Madrid CF midfielder is believed to be open to the possibility of moving to the Premier League, with Manchester United and Liverpool both maintaining long-term interest in the French international.
According to reports, representatives connected to Camavinga have already spoken to United regarding his situation in Madrid.
The 23-year-old has endured a difficult season by his own high standards, but he remains highly rated across Europe after previously being tipped to become one of the world’s best midfielders.
United are also reportedly monitoring Camavinga’s France teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni as the club explores several possible options.
The ongoing search reflects the growing urgency surrounding Manchester United’s midfield situation.
Casemiro’s advancing age and the club’s need for more energy and mobility in central areas have intensified recruitment plans ahead of another campaign that is expected to include Champions League football.
For African football followers, Baleba’s continued links with Manchester United underline the increasing value and influence of African midfielders at the highest level of European football.
The Cameroon international has rapidly established himself as one of the continent’s brightest young exports, and despite Brighton’s firm stance over his valuation, interest in him appears unlikely to fade anytime soon.
