Manchester United are continuing to monitor Cameroon international Carlos Baleba ahead of a possible future move, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirming the midfielder remains part of the club’s long-term plans.
Baleba, who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion, has already been identified internally at Old Trafford as a potential midfield reinforcement after previous attempts to secure his signature were blocked.
According to Romano, United had reached a verbal understanding on personal terms with the 22-year-old as far back as 2025, with the player open to a switch to Manchester.
However, Brighton refused to sanction a transfer at the time, keeping hold of one of their most highly rated young midfielders.
A similar situation unfolded again during the January window, with United once more exploring the possibility of a deal but again being met with resistance from the south coast club.
At this stage, no formal bid has been made for the Cameroon international, but he remains on United’s shortlist as planning begins for future midfield additions.
Romano indicated that the situation has not cooled, particularly after a series of strong performances from Baleba in the Premier League, including a standout display in Brighton’s 3-0 win over Chelsea.
His growing consistency has also drawn attention from other top English clubs, underlining his rising reputation.
For Cameroon, Baleba’s development is being closely followed, with the midfielder increasingly seen as part of a new generation of players expected to carry the national team’s midfield ambitions forward in the coming years.
His physical presence, technical ability and composure in high-intensity matches have made him one of the most watched young African midfielders in Europe.
Brighton, however, are not under immediate pressure to sell, and any potential deal is expected to require a significant transfer fee, reflecting both his age profile and long-term contract status.
Manchester United are expected to revisit the situation in the next transfer cycle, with the Cameroon international still seen as a viable option if circumstances at Brighton change.
For now, Baleba remains firmly in place in the Premier League, but his name continues to circulate among elite clubs tracking emerging African talent in Europe’s top divisions.
